Conte Wildlife
Refuge
The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge
was established in 1997 to conserve native plants, animals,
and habitat throughout the four-state Connecticut River
watershed. With the support of Friends of Conte and
other local partners, TPL recently completed its fifth
project protecting grassland bird habitat along the Fort
River, the Connecticut’s longest free-flowing tributary
in Massachusetts. Photo: Clem Clay
MA‘O Farm
This organic farm on O‘ahu, a leader in Hawaii’s sustainable agriculture movement, is well known for the
vegetables and salad greens it produces for area restaurants. An initiative of the Wai‘anae Community
Redevelopment Corporation, the farm also integrates
agriculture with educational and leadership programs
for Hawaiian youth. In January, TPL helped the farm
more than double its acreage by acquiring an adjacent
property. Photo: Arna Photography
